What is the AFCT Donor Egg Program?

AFCT’s donor egg program is designed to help women who may not be able to use their own eggs to become pregnant. Donor eggs may be required for many reasons. Women who have failed IVF due to poor egg quality may consider donor eggs. Women over the age of 43 may also experience low ovarian reserve and may consider donor eggs. Eggs may be damaged or destroyed by cancer, chemotherapy or radiation, and women who have undergone these treatments may require an egg donor. Some women carry serious genetic diseases that could be transferred to the child, so they may choose to use donor eggs.

Why Join Our Egg Donor Program?

While it is possible to use preimplantation genetic diagnosis to diagnose many diseases and reduce the chance of transmission to the offspring, it is not yet feasible to test for all genetic abnormalities. Sometimes eggs fail to fertilize or develop for unknown reasons; therefore, patients who have failed IVF with their own eggs may opt to enter our donor egg program. Keep in mind that, while egg donation is a wonderful gift you are giving to a couple in need, you are committing to provide this gift. While AFCT is committed to making the process of egg donation as easy as possible, certain commitments, such as your time, are required.

How to Become an Egg Donor

All of our egg donor candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Between 21 and 34 years of age
  2. No illicit substance or chronic alcohol abuse
  3. Healthy weight
  4. No family history of congenital disease
  5. Pass psychological screening
  6. Complete and pass physical exam and history by a physician in our facility
  7. Complete and pass all lab testing
  8. Complete our Egg Donor Questionnaire

We prefer to have donors who are less than 34 years old and have at least 10 or more follicles (eggs) at the baseline ultrasound. This is to minimize the risks of Down Syndrome and increase the chance of conception. If you are interested in committing to provide a meaningful gift to a couple, give Advanced Fertility Center of Texas a call at (713) 467-4488 (EXT) or email us at info@afctexas.com.

Due to the strict criteria, not all applicants will qualify to become an egg donor.
