PCOS Infertility Treatments

Clomid with Metformin

Clomid is an oral medication used to induce and regulate ovulation. In patients with PCOS it has been shown to work better when used in combination with Metformin (500 mg three times a day) to improve pregnancy rates.

Injectable medication:
FSH, FSH-LH

Gonal-F, Follistim, , and Menapur are medications used to directly stimulate the ovary to produce several follicles and improve pregnancy rate. These medications are used when the ovaries do not respond to oral medications or the oral medications were used for three months without success.

Letrozole with Metformin

Letrozole is an aromatase inhibitor that works like Clomid. It induces ovulation and their effects are improved when used in combination with metformin. The risk of twins with Letrozole is about 5%.

In Vitro Fertilization

IVF is an excellent option for patients who have failed to achieve a pregnancy with other ovulation induction treatments.
At Advanced Fertility Center of Texas we have years of experience in achieving excellent pregnancy rates in women with PCOS. We strive to improve insulin resistance prior to the initiation of IVF, and this approach has resulted in substantial improvement in our pregnancy rates while minimizing the risk of spontaneous abortions and gestational diabetes. Special emphasis is placed on utilizing minimal medications to induce follicular development, and every effort is made to minimize the common risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.
